Bunny Maintenance

Maintenance

It is crucial for your rabbit to always have a water source and a sufficient amount of food per day

but there are also some other things that need to be taken care of. First and foremost is

cleanliness, rabbits (if not extremely well trained or just the occasional rabbit that keeps clean

and orderly) will make a mess of their enclosure and it’s your job to clean and reconstruct order

in it as well as dispose and clean out their feces, some rabbits (typically the bucks) do not groom

themselves sufficiently on their behinds so you may have to regularly check and remove any

feces, matted pee or grass that got stuck in its fur, if you don't clean your rabbit’s cage or keep it

dry or check your rabbit each day, your rabbit could get fly strike which is when a certain kind of

fly lays its eggs on your rabbit and the maggots eat your poor bunny alive. One thing to regularly

do to your bunny (every month or so) if it is not in a big enclosure or run very often; is to clip its

nails, how to do this is to hold your bunny on its back (laying it between your thighs while sitting

is the best way, but if your bunny struggles a lot you will want to hold him or her in your arms

to have more control) gently hold one of his or her paws and spread the fur away from one of the

toe nails, position the nail clipper ⅛ to ¼ above the highest pink part of the nail/claw. Make

sure you look around the whole claw because the pink part is higher in places than others, I

made the mistake of not looking around the whole claw my first time and I hurt my bunny by

getting it in the pink which is higher up in certain portions of the claw (the pink part is like their

finger under their nail).

When the day is over and all the work is done, having a rabbit snuggle up on you is worthwhile

all the time used to care for and love it.
