Gene set A_
The A_ gene set basically controls the coverage of colored fur, but also has different things that it controls as well such as the Agouti gene will cause tic marks on the fur coat of your rabbit.
The Agouti gene.
The Agouti gene (A_) makes the bunny have white rings around the eyes & nose. It also makes white; the belly, underside of tail, and underside of ears. As well as have dark colored fur around the ear and tick marks. If you were to spread apart the fur you would see a ring of colored fur, but colors such as cream and orange have white before color but can still be Agouti.
Variations of this gene: A_, Aat, and Aa.
The Tan gene.
The tan gene (at) is similar to the Agouti gene with having white (or off white) rings of color around nose & eyes. It also makes the belly, underside of tail, and underside of ears whitish. But the fur will be full color without tick marks and such.
Variations of this gene: at & ata.
The Self gene.
The self gene is the most simple, with self it is only one color that goes all the way up the shaft of fur without any other color at the roots or middle. I've read also that any marking on the fur makes it not self so I'll have to find out about Vienna markings and broken for types.
The only variation for this gene to show is aa.
When parent 1 with both AA genes and parent 2 with both aa genes, all the offspring will be Agouti (A_) but carry the recessive self (aa) genes.
When parent 1 with Aa genes and parent 2 with Aa genes, 50% the offspring will be Aa (Agouti; A_ but carry the recessive self; a gene), 25% will be AA (Agouti), and 25% will be aa (self).
When parent 1 with Aa genes and parent 2 with aa genes, 50% the offspring will be Aa (Agouti but carry the recessive self gene), and 50% will be aa (self).
And the same method could be used for the at gene.
